For 35 years, the Southern New England Friendship League has been giving the GLBT community a supportive environment to learn and play softball. All skill levels are welcomed. The SNEFL is a place where you can build a life lasting friendship with a teammate or with another member of the league. The season runs April to July with two games being played every Sunday in various locations. Home games are in Springfield parks; away games are in Hartford, New Haven, and New London. The league is always looking for new players, young and not so young. Go to and contact a league officer if you are interested in playing or even supporting. Cheerleaders are always welcomed. For more information on the Springfield team, contact Michael at

UniTy is a social, educational, and advocacy group for the Transgender community. It meets on the Second Thursday of every month at 7:00 PM in the ground floor cafe at the Baystate Medical Building at 3300 Main Street. For more information, email Deja at or call her at (860) 604-6343.

NEO (Not Exactly Oprah) Book Club meets on the second Sunday of each month at various homes throughout the Pioneer Valley. It is a very informal book club, more on the social side than the bibliophile. Book titles are chosen by the host for that given month and can range from coming of age stories to the latest Pulitzer Prize winner. To view a list of books the club has read, go to (it’s free to join) and then search for "NEO Book Club". If interested in participating in the NEO Book Club, contact Matthew at
